I don’t think I’ve been this excited about an 8″ Dunny since the Flying Fortress release  about 2 years ago.  I haven’t been too crazy about a lot of the recent releases, but French artist Skwak has just reignited my interest in the whole scene.  This new Dunny looks amazing!  Limited to 500, make sure you’re in line at your local urban vinyl store when these drop on Feb. 18th.

It sounds like the new drama thriller sequel that stars Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington but it’s not all that scary at all…

The Hand Collector Project started in 2005 and showcases different artwork using the human hand as a medium.  Why Hands? ” on feet is harder” says the collector.  Based out of Italy, the hand collector has already been able to compile works from known artists around the world in his V.I.P. (Very Important Palms) gallery.

Paper toys are quickly becoming the coolest thing since sliced bread.  I think the best part about them is that they’re practically free if you don’t include the cost of paper and printer ink.  They’re pretty hard to make and sometimes will take some know-how to make them look display worthy.  

The series we’re featuring here is by Shin Tanaka, Hoophy, brings together all your favourite artists in the Urban Vinyl scene.  They’re all available on his site and include works by Superdeux, Skwak, and Jon Burgerman to name a few.  There are currently 12 Hoophy’s to choose from in the series.

We’ve been going to a lot of craft fairs and artist exhibition shows lately to check out the circuit and get some ideas, one thing we’ve been seeing a lot of is plush toys.  We came across a few local artists who design and create plush toys by themselves.  I would love to start collecting designer plush toys but they would be in danger of the two terrorist miniature dachshunds at home.

These cute monsters are from Esty Gerztman, based out of the Netherlands.  They come from her “Zoo Art” line of work and is available for purchase at her online store.  I think its cool that she sets some of her plush monsters in environments kind of like how you would with action figures, but the whole thing is plush!  The one of the monster in the city is definitely my favourite one.

The artist we decided to feature today comes all the way from Mexico, Cesar Evangelista Bautista aka Mr. Kone.  This guy has some serious talent when it comes to vectors, and it shows with the list of clients he’s worked with: Nike, Nickelodeon, Sony-BMG, MTV just to name a few.

Check out this really cool SpongeBob collab.  This was for the 10th anniversary celebration/exhibition held in Mexico and was commisioned by Nickelodeon.

I’ve always wanted to draw on my walls.  I was one of those kids growing up who would get in crap for drawing with crayons, my favorite canvas? walls.  It just made sense, white walls needed colour.  In comes the Digital Graffiti Wall.  It’s surely something to entertain the guests.

“We keep on making the graffiti wall better and better. This is a little demo of the new stencils module we have added to it. We shot this video at Draw by Night, a Vancouver event organized my Myron Campbell. Visuals also by Myron.”

Matt from Hamburger Disco took a trip to Santa Monica, CA not too long ago and showed me this picture he took of a phone booth in Melrose. I didn’t really know what it was until I stumbled upon a feature on My Modern Met. Its actually part of a Bee Hive project by Los Angeles-based Street Artist, Bumblebee.

“Telephone companies have been abandoning their public telephone booths by taking out the phones and leaving the structures beehind. (Probably due to the rise in cell phone users.) I want to reuse these structures as a way of communication with the public once more by replacing that empty space with paper-mache beehives. To me, this symbolizes the irony beehind the question, ‘where have so many of the bees gone’ and the theory that cell phone signals have been misguiding their normal patterns of migration.”

“The bees represent a fear that the innocent often embrace. As a child you are sometimes told not to do things or play with things for the fear of what might happen as a result. To me that takes away the experience and freedom of trying new things for yourself. I felt that bees would bee a great representation of this even if their fear is as small as one. Street art is often feared and criticized as beeing vandalism and I believe that through my work I can convince people otherwise.”

Montreal-born artist Maxime Archambault lives in a world much alike the world Hamburger Disco wants to be in. “My imagination draws its inspiration from a childish world.  It is composed mainly by friendly monsters, clouds and brightly coloured rainbows”, he says on his website S3projects.com.  Just take a look at these custom Munny’s and Dunny’s that he’s created, its no surprise that something like this would catch our attention.

Maxime has also ventured into designing clothes for different companies, everything from shoes, hats, shirts, and hoodies.

I’m a really big fan of sneakers, but I don’t really get to feature them as much here because there’s just way too many to do but I had to feature this!  Paper toys have been getting a lot of attention lately and UK based artist David Browning has definitely been a huge fan of paper ever since.  ”Here is a list of things that i like: Pop up books, paper mechanics, different types of pens, different types of paper…” says David on his website.  Judging from these paper sneakers, I’d say he’s pretty damn good at what he does.
